A New Planning System for NSW....and you

As NSW residents, we all care about the planning decisions which protect and strengthen the regions, communities and streets in which we live. These decisions have a profound influence on where we work, live, play and shop.

The NSW Government is re-writing the State's main planning law, known as the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

The NSW Planning System Review held over 90 open community forums and over 70 key stakeholder meetings throughout NSW between August and November 2011. Submissions for the initial "listening" phase of the Review closed on 4 November 2011. You can read the submissions received during this phase here.

The consultations and submissions received informed the development of an Issues Paper which was released 6 December 2011. This Issues Paper outlines the key questions we need to think about regarding planning issues in NSW.

The Review Panel would like to thank all those individuals and organisations who have taken the opportunity to participate in the process so far.

We now look forward to receiving your answers to some of the questions raised in the Issues Paper.

Extension to submissions deadline

It was announced on 9 February 2012 by the co-chairs of the Review Panel that the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure had approved an extension of 2 weeks to the closing date for submissions. The Minister's approval of the extension followed a request from a number of key stakeholders.

The new closing date for submissions on the Issues Paper is midnight Friday 2 March 2012.
