This workshop was facilitated by Ms Alyssa Antcliffe, Secretary NSW Branch AMPLA and Mr Pepe Clarke, Chief Executive Officer, Nature Conservation Council NSW.
The range of issues discussed included:
- the importance of long term strategic plan making
- the importannce of integration between planning at local, state and national level and the integration of planning expertise
- the need for a whole of government approach to strategic planning, utilising widespread agency expertise
- the importance of 'certainty' in the planning process
- the challenge of finding a balance between certainty / long-term planning whilst maintaining flexibility
- that good strategic planning needs high quality information and adequate resources
- that strategic planning should be based on robust economic analysis
- the importance of community engagement.
