This workshop was facilitated by Ms Alyssa Antcliffe, Secretary NSW Branch AMPLA and Mr Pepe Clarke, Chief Executive Officer, Nature Conservation Council NSW.

Making plans workshopThe range of issues discussed included:

  • the importance of long term strategic plan making
  • the importannce of integration between planning at local, state and national level and the integration of planning expertise
  • the need for a whole of government approach to strategic planning, utilising widespread agency expertise
  • the importance of 'certainty' in the planning process
  • the challenge of finding a balance between certainty / long-term planning whilst maintaining flexibility
  • that good strategic planning needs high quality information and adequate resources
  • that strategic planning should be based on robust economic analysis
  • the importance of community engagement.
